I think Reno gets so much hate is from a majority of tourists only seeing downtown. Midtown is basically it. Lots of nicer apartment options in South Reno, but it ain’t gonna be walkable. That said, it takes 15-20 minutes max to get to most places in Reno, Mt Rose is 20-30 minutes from South Reno (I live right off Mt Rose Highway and can be on the ski lift 30 minutes after walking out my front door) and there are so many outdoor activities .
